Gavin Venable

Hi, my name is Gavin Venable and I am a part of the design team for Mosaic.  I’m studying mechanical engineering and love photography as a hobby.  As an engineering major, the heavy load of math and physics can really wear me down. So, working on Mosaic is a way for me to get a break from the STEM grind, get creative, and express myself.  I have always been interested in photography and the post-editing process.  Not having any technical training in either, I wanted to join design because it’s what I’m less experienced with.

I live for being outside and feeding my adrenaline rush addiction.  I love skydiving, cliff jumping, hiking, camping, and really anything outside.  Next summer, I’m planning to go backpacking through Europe for two months.  I’ve been to Europe once on a senior trip, but now want to go back and really experience the different cultures.  I plan on going by myself and staying in hostels.  I basically want to just meet people as I travel and figure out my next move as I go!  I saw an ad for skydiving in the Swiss Alps, so of course that’s on my to-do list.  Just don’t tell my mom about the skydiving part, she hates all the dangerous activities I love.  She doesn’t think it’s worth dying for, but if there was gonna be a way to go, I feel like skydiving in Switzerland would be pretty good.

Also, I have been on the men’s rowing team here at Alabama for 2.5 years and have made some of my best friends training and traveling all over the country.  It was a sport I didn’t even know existed until ‘Get on Board Day’ and next thing you know I’m waking up at 5 AM 6 days a week.  Rowing gave me a family on campus, and to be honest I have no idea where I’d be today at the University of Alabama.
