Name: Sam Dueringer

Position: Social Media Team

Sam Dueringer is a Sophomore at the University of Alabama majoring in Advertising with a minor in Psychology. She tells people she’s from Chicago because it’s more well known compared to her small town of Lake Bluff, IL where everyone knows everyone. Lake Bluff is 30 miles north of downtown Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. Sam enjoys taking the train downtown often with her friends to explore and enjoy all of the unique restaurants (not just the Chicago style pizza), classic sights like the Bean, days at the Oak Street Beach, and shopping from Michigan Avenue’s magnificent mile to Wicker Park’s artsy thrift shops. This Summer Sam and her friends decided to walk downtown on a whim and not so quickly realized it is the equivalent of a marathon.

Sam moved around a lot as a kid starting in her birthplace of Portland, OR and weaving around through the midwest and south. She decided to head to the south for college because of the great weather and the southern charm. She has found her home in Tuscaloosa. Sam is the middle child in a family of five with an older sister, a younger brother and two adorable dogs. Barclay is a 15 year old Golden Retriever who still loves running outside and Bo is a 4 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever who is obsessed with playing catch. In her free time Sam enjoys thrift shopping, playing with her dogs, painting, volunteering and watching The Office on repeat.

Sam is the Director of Banners for her sorority, Delta Gamma. Through this position she is able to create art that showcases her sisters’ accomplishments. Sam is also involved in Lambda Sigma Honor Society where she is able to find opportunities to give back to the Tuscaloosa community. Al’s Pals has been another opportunity to be involved in the community and Sam loves meeting with the kids each week to help them with homework and getting to know them through fun activities.

Through her college experience Sam is excited to find a passion to pursue as her career that she will look forward to each and every day. Sam decided to major in Advertising so she could utilize her creative side which she loves and chose a minor in psychology to understand human behavior as related to advertising. Sam is excited to be a part of the Mosaic Staff this year and collaborate with her peers to create a magazine that makes an impact and difference at the University of Alabama and beyond.
