College can be stressful for many different reasons. Whether it is because of school, being away from home, and trying to make new friends, everyone needs to find time to destress. Personally, my favorite way to destress is to take a walk. It is a great way to clear your mind while getting some fresh air. The Quad is probably the most popular destination to walk on campus, but I am going to teach you some other great areas in Tuscaloosa that aren’t as well known.

One of the most beautiful walking destinations around Tuscaloosa is the Riverwalk. It is a paved walking trail that follows the Black Warrior River. The entire length is approximately 4.5 miles and it runs through trees, over water, and through playgrounds. It is a great place to look out at the river and get a good workout in!

Another beautiful place in Tuscaloosa that is not well known is the Lake Nicol outer cliff trail. It is a 1.1-mile trail that features a great forest setting and is primarily used for hiking, walking, running. I highly recommend Lake Nicol because it is peaceful and very well secluded. If you don’t feel like walking, bring a book to read or just sit by the lake!

The last place I recommend to destress is The University of Alabama Arboretum. You can request a tour or make a reservation to visit the beautiful walking trails that go through a native woodland section, a wildflower garden, a collection of ornamental plants, an experimental garden, and a children’s garden.
