Today for Mosaic Magazine’s club spotlight we’ll be looking into one of the newest clubs at the University of Alabama – the Cryptocurrency club. The club originated last year around the time that bitcoin and other digital currencies were making headlines for their historic growth. People, investors and companies all around the world suddenly became very interested in the technology and speculation opportunities. However, in the midst of the craze there were also many fraudulent projects and controversies that made entering the space very uncertain for the unaware. That’s why the mission of the club today is to better inform members of the various unknowns surrounding the technology, and promote a safe environment for exploring new coin projects.

Mosaic magazine recently sat down with the current president of the club, Kevin Hopkins, to have a brief conversation about what the club is working on now. Currently, the club is aspiring to fund its own portfolio of digital currencies in an effort to give members hands on experience. Beyond a real money portfolio, the club is also working on setting up a bitcoin ATM machine on campus to give more students convenient exposure to the technology.

If you would like to become a part of the cryptocurrency club and meet with other members to explore new technologies then make sure to reach out at uacryptoclub@gmail.com.
