Name: Makena Trust

Position: Design Team

Hey! My name is Makena Trust and I am a senior at the University of Alabama studying computer science with a minor in mathematics. I am passionate about being an advocate for women in STEM and volunteer for Bama Bits & Bites, a service to help young women in the Tuscaloosa community learn how to code. This past summer, I completed a software engineering internship at a healthcare company in Austin, TX, and plan to continue working with them post graduation.

I am originally from San Diego and never thought I would leave Southern California. When I am in San Diego, I love to go to the beach and drive with my friends to get coffee. I knew it would be difficult to leave my entire family, but once I saw Bryant Denny and the beautiful UA campus, I knew I wanted to be here. I LOVE being in Alabama and am a member of Alpha Delta Pi as well as the Honors College. Going so far from home has been an amazing growing experience and being involved in many things around campus has made the experience so much more valuable.

In my free time, I love to watch movies with my friends. We are huge crime junkies and love to watch documentaries (this past semester we watched every single Jonbenet Ramsey documentary we could find). Along with that, we are in the process of watching all of Black Mirror and the Twilight movies. I love to be able to go to concerts and am very excited that large events are back (and hopefully they stay that way). Over the past few years, I have been to dozens of rap concerts and EDM shows and hope to continue to do that!

I am so excited about being involved in Mosaic this semester and working with the digital media team. I can’t wait to be a part of such a talented and passionate team and am looking forward to an awesome semester!
